A GRAFTON community bus driver has been taken to hospital after crashing into the side of a house in South Grafton.

The accident on Riverside Drive occured about 8.45am.

Police said it appeared the driver, who was waiting at the Grafton Aged Care Home, had lost control of the vehicle and was unable to stop the vehicle safely when he lost power to the brakes.

The bus rolled down the hill and took out a fence before ploughing into the side of a house, damaging to the wall and front room.

The driver was taken to hospital by ambulance, and is believed to be in a stable condition.

Grafton Aged Care Home nursing director Julie Spicer said it was lucky the residents were not on the bus at the time of the accident.
