Bushwalker discovers crashed car, dead driver, near Nimbin

A FATAL crash near Nimbin was not discovered until a bushwalker stumbled across the up-turned vehicle last night, police have said.

A man walking along a bush track next to the Nimbin Road at Coffee Camp, a few kilometres south of Nimbin, when he found a silver Ford Falcon lying on its roof in the bushes with the body of a man aged in his late 50s inside it.

Police, paramedics, and Rural Fire Service volunteers were called to the scene. An injured dog was found near the vehicle and was taken to a vet for treatment.

Police said they suspected the crash may have happened as early as Saturday. It appeared the car had been travelling south on the Nimbin Road when it left the road, became airborne, hit a tree and flipped.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing and police will prepare a report for the information of the Coroner.
