Business bouncing along very nicely

BUSINESS confidence is sagging across the nation but a Sunshine Coast trampoline company has found a spring in its step.

Springfree Trampolines Asia Pacific vice-president Shane Fretwell said the company's high performing Kunda Park business was looking to expand its operations this year.

"While most businesses are reducing costs by closing plants and turning their attention to online, we are investing in more bricks and mortar and more innovation," he said.

The company - which opened its Asia Pacific head office at Kunda Park in 2004 - is bucking the national trend.

A National Australia Bank quarterly survey released this month showed business confidence dropped from six points to two in the three months leading up to December, below the average.

Springfree has grown in 10 years from four employees to more than 50, with about 100 staff employed for busy holiday periods.

"We've got a lot of long-term employees who have been here since day one. People want to work here," Mr Fretwell said.

He said the company's emphasis on quality made it affordable for repeat customers to buy new trampolines every few years.

"Our resale is incredible, even four or five years on you will see Springfree Trampolines on eBay or other sites still selling for 70 to 85% of the retail value and that's a testament to the product and how much people want to buy it," he said.

Mr Fretwell said the proposed expansion of the Sunshine Coast Airport would help the business expand.

"Springfree is all about family. We have a fun product, we love kids and we support families and are all about supporting anything that focuses on family connections," he said.
