Caitlyn survives boot camp cut, how far can she go?

GYMPIE country music sensation Caitlyn Shadbolt has again wowed the judges on Seven's reality television talent show X Factor, progressing to the next stage of the competition.

The Gold City tuned into X Factor on Sunday night to watch Caitlyn work her way through boot camp.

The 18-year-old Australian Institute of Country Music graduate progressed through the first stage of boot camp and, along with 11 other girls, was teamed up with Irish superstar and X Factor judge Ronan Keating.

Ronan now has the job of trimming his team from 12 to six to take on Home Visits, the next stage of the competition.

Caitlyn and her guitar impressed Ronan with her country rendition of Sarah Bareilles' Brave.

"I want to show Ronan I can put the country spin on whatever song he gives me and can be what he is after in an artist," Caitlyn said.

Ronan had plenty of positive comments about Caitlyn's performance on Sunday night.

"She is a very musical girl, she understands performance," he said. "I do think Australia will love her."

But it doesn't look like it will be an easy transition to the next stage of the competition for Caitlyn as the other contestants stepped up with some standout performances.

The judges were impressed with 14-year-old Marlisa Punzalan and her fantastic rendition of Never be the Same.

The shy 14-year-old from Blacktown has been touted as one of the singers to beat on The X Factor based on the early audition rounds, though she has struck out on both Australia's Got Talent and The Voice Kids - the latter because she exceeded the age limit by one month.

Caitlyn's X Factor journey continues tonight and tomorrow.
