Call to Valley's men

CLARENCE Valley men have an opportunity to be involved in the development of Australia's first National Men's Health Policy.

The Federal Government is holding a consultation in Grafton next week to seek comments and feedback from local men to help develop the policy.

Member for Page Janelle Saffin said she requested a Men's Health Forum for Page because she had been lobbied on men's health issues by active grassroots services such as the men's sheds, veterans' groups and the Clarence Valley Prostate Cancer Support Group.

“It's a fact that Australian men don't use health services as much as women do, often seek treatment at a later stage than women, and have a lower life expectancy,” Ms Saffin said.

“The national policy will not simply focus on medical issues, but will also take a holistic approach to improving men's physical and mental health.

“The government wants to hear from local men about their experiences with the health system and I encourage men of all ages and backgrounds to come to the forum.”

The Men's Health Forum will be held in Grafton next Wednesday, April 1, between 6pm and 8pm at the Grafton District Services Club in Mary Street, Grafton.
