Cansdell parliamentary secretary for police

MEMBER for Clarence Steve Cansdell has been appointed Parliamentary Secretary to Police Minister Michael Gallacher.

Mr Cansdell said he hoped the appointment would strengthen the voice of regional NSW on law and order issues.

“Our cops are tops, but there are some challenges: too many are on long term leave, not all are working in safe conditions and they simply don’t have the resources they need to do the job, particularly in regional NSW.”

He said the position provided its challenges but he hoped a new resource allocation model being developed would address issues, including police numbers in the Coffs Clarence command which was 45 officers short.

“We have many challenges ahead including an audit of police resources across the State, boosting the Highway Patrol and supporting Neighbourhood Watch in its transit to the 21st Century digital age," he said.
