Queensland coast golf kids a hit in Southern California

YEPPOON'S Don and Shelley Scott's dream finally came to fruition after four years of research and planning for the inaugural Australian Junior Age Division Golf Championships at the Capricorn Resort.

With the complete support of management, more than 150 juniors teed off the inaugural event in an effort to represent Australia in the Veritas World Junior Olympic Games Golf Championships.

Twenty qualifiers, as Australian champions, took advantage of this opportunity and travelled to the US to compete in the Veritas World - AAA Junior Olympic Games Golf Championships in Pasadena and Tustin, Southern California.

Buderim's Ryley Martin (senior team captain ) brought home a gold medal after a stellar performance that saw Ryley win the 16-18 age division by one shot.

Peregian Springs junior Cassie Porter (junior team captain) also won a gold medal after leading the 12-years age division by a comfortable 13 shots.

Emerald Lakes' Yutaro Matsushita brought home gold in the six-year division and Yeppoon Capricorn Resort's Aidan Scott found himself in a three-way play-off in the eight-year division and came home with a bronze medal.

Gladstone's Ryan Stitt came storming home on the final day, shooting three under to claim the bronze medal in the 13-years division from another Australian team member Ben Scott from Capricorn Resort.

As a result of their attendance in the US, juniors from other countries have indicated they plan to attend next year's Australian Junior Aged Championship at the Capricorn Resort.
