Carbon tax axed and that's good for families, says Page MP

PAGE MP Kevin Hogan says yesterday's Senate vote to scrap the Carbon Tax was a win for regional families, agriculture and small businesses.

"Scrapping the Carbon Tax will save the average household around $550 a year, including around $200 on the average household electricity bill and around $70 on the average gas bill," he said.

Mr Hogan said the Government's consumer watchdog, the ACCC, has been given extra funding and powers to ensure savings are passed on to consumers.

However, the Climate Institute says its modelling suggests savings to consumers are likely to be much smaller than suggested by Coalition MPs, with total savings ranging between $80 and $200 a year.
