Carr drives into the lead for Silver Cup
GOLF: Armidale golfer Amanda Carr will be hoping for clear skies today as she aims to replicate her 2012 efforts to take out the Silver Cup at the Grafton Ladies Golf May Tournament.
Shooting off a handicap of seven, Carr leads the field into the halfway mark of the 36-hole gross event after firing a handy 79 off the stick on what was a picturesque day on the greens yesterday.
It has been an impressive effort from the Armidale contender who is only three games back from a serious knee operation in April.
"I putted well on the front nine and just made sure I stayed out of trouble,” she said after coming off course.
It would have been a further lead for Carr, except for a tough run into the clubhouse with a double bogey and a bogey on the last two holes of the day.
Coffs Harbour's Ada Lynch who brought a wealth of experience into the tournament trails Carr by two strokes overnight and will be ready to push the matter early today to clinch the trophy that has so far eluded her clutches.
Coolangatta-Tweed duo Sue Reguson and Jodie Rockliff are both firing along at a decent click shooting 83 off the stick and will be ready to make a charge on the back nine today as both aim for another Silver Cup.
Grafton's Janette Blair and Peg James are the best of the local contingent after they shot 87 for the day.
Play continues at the club today from 7am.
