Cash splash in Ocean Swims

MAKING a splash in the water was the right choice at Yamba yesterday.

The thermometer reached 34 degrees in the seaside town as hundreds hurtled beyond the breakers for the annual Yamba Ocean Swims.

Featuring 700 metre, 2km and Dash for Cash races, there was something for everyone and Main Beach was a hive of activity all morning.

Local swimmers challenged interstate rivals, professional athletes were pitted against school champions, even some heroes of yesteryear dropped in and, of course, those who just appreciate healthy exercise and a holiday chinwag.

Australian long distance open water swimmer Ridge Grimsey powered away from the field to win all three events.

Ella Basala was the fastest woman in the 700m event while Shivaun Street was first female home in the 2km swim.
