Casino deaths prompt investigation
Detectives are continuing their inquiries into the deaths of a man and young girl near Casino. A child abduction alert was issued for a 40-year-old man and five-year-old girl after she was allegedly taken from a house at Robina, on Queensland’s Gold Coast, yesterday (Monday 16 May). It followed the discovery of the bodies a man and a woman at that residence. A full-scale search was launched on both sides of the border for the man and young girl – believed to be travelling in a silver-coloured 2006-model Holden Viva. As a result of a tip-off from a member of the public, police from Richmond Local Area located their bodies in the car a short distance from the Bruxner Highway at Piora, 20km west of Casino, about 9.30pm yesterday. A crime scene was established and continues to be examined by forensic officers today. A search of the surrounding area will also be undertaken by local police. The bodies of the deceased will be taken to Brisbane for formal identification and post mortem examination. Richmond Local Area Command Detectives and State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are assisting their Queensland counterparts with their ongoing investigation. The circumstances surrounding both incidents will be examined by the Queensland State Coroner.
