Cattle truck roll blocks Pacific Hwy near Big Banana
EMERGENCY services are continuing to clear the Pacific Hwy after a cattle truck rolled over near the Big Banana this morning.
Police say lane diversions are in place as crews work to remove the truck from the site.
Cattle that had escaped the vehicle during the crash have been euthanised after consultation with the Department of Primary Industries and the RSPCA.
Both lanes of traffic are using the northbound carriageway and motorists have been advised to expect delays.
10:45: CATTLE are roaming near the Pacific Hwy just north of the Big Banana after a truck rolled.
Southbound traffic has been blocked and is already banked up past the James Small Dr exit.
Shortly after 10.30am a southbound truck with 55 head of cattle on board, rolled just before it reached the Big Banana.
The driver appears to be uninjured but in a state of shock.
Police are on the scene and early reports indicate some of the cattle are still trapped in the back of the truck while some are wandering in the bush to the side of the road.
The northbound lane is being set-up so it can accommodate traffic moving in both directions using one lane each.
Witnesses have indicated the driver, who was driving from Casino to Wingham, experienced a load shift which caused the truck to flip.
