Cavanaugh backs carbon tax

THOUSANDS of new jobs in regional areas and a reduction in pollution are two of the many benefits of the Federal Government’s proposed Carbon Tax according to Greens Candidate for Clarence, Janet Cavanaugh, who is backing the scheme.

Ms Cavanaugh said aside from the environmental benefits of introducing a tax on carbon, recent research conducted by the Climate Institute suggested pollution pricing and policies that supported clean energy could lead to significant employment and investment opportunities in regional areas.

Incumbent Member for Clarence Steve Cansdell and independent candidate for Clarence Richie Williamson have both said they would not support the carbon tax.
