MEGAN Haines, the former Ballina nurse charged with two counts of murder, was denied bail after appearing in Central Local Court in Sydney yesterday.

The 46-year-old woman was arrested in Victoria on Monday in relation to the suspicious deaths of two St Andrews nursing home residents, 77-year-old Isobella Spencer and 82-year-old Marie Darragh, who were found in their nursing home beds on Saturday, May 10.

She has also been charged with assault on an 88-year-old resident on the same evening.

Magistrate Les Mabbutt denied bail because there was an unacceptable risk Haines would fail to appear in court, commit a serious offence or endanger the safety of victims.

The matter is listed for mention at Lismore Local Court on July 15.
