Chelsea chokes early but reels it in for 3-1 win

CHELSEA recovered from conceding a goal after only 13 seconds to beat Southampton 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and move second on the Premier League ladder yesterday.

Southampton striker Jay Rodriguez stunned the home crowd before three second half goals from Gary Cahill, captain John Terry, playing his 400th Premier League game, and Demba Ba sealed victory.

Chelsea's win closed the gap on leader Arsenal to four points.

Elsewhere, free-scoring Manchester City is third after beating Swansea 3-0. City has now scored 16 goals in its last three home games following the 7-0 rout of Norwich and 6-0 hammering of Spurs last week.

Spurs recovered from that embarrassing loss with a 2-2 draw at home against champion Manchester United.

Liverpool started the day second, but slipped to fourth after losing 3-1 at Hull, the host's first-ever win against the Reds.
