Christmas survival tips
SO, CHRISTMAS and that holiday party season is creeping upon us. Actually, it's racing around the corner!
This is the time of year some of my clients freak out just a little.
With all the effort they've put into reaching their weight loss and health goals, understandably, they can be a little nervous about the possibility of all their gains crashing down around their ankles at that first 'cheers' they have at their work party.
So what do you do to stay in shape this Christmas?
Nutrition Australia gives some of these tips:
Eat something healthy, like a small protein-rich snack, meal or smoothie, before going to any party to reduce your chances of eating too much unhealthy party food.
Do not try to lose weight during the Christmas season. Simply feel good about maintaining your current weight.
Be aware of your portion sizes. Don't overeat as this stretches your stomach so you continue wanting to eat larger amounts.
Fill up on foods such as vegetables, legumes, hummus, protein, fruit and unprocessed foods.
Alcohol is considered to be 'empty calories' and is similar to consuming highly refined sugar, so it's very easy to gain weight while drinking alcohol.
Party foods to enjoy
- Vegetable sticks, rice crackers
- Hummus, beetroot, tzatziki, avocado dip
- Sandwiches, quiches
- Fruit salad
Foods to limit
- Creamy dips
- Pies, sausage rolls, spinach triangles
- Chips, corn chips
