Clarence trio charging into the bash

CRICKET: It is going to be a big step up for three of the Clarence Valley's brightest young cricketers but one they are excited to make.

GDSC Easts English import Mack Spencer, Westlawn all-rounder Jacob Ellis and in-form Brothers vice-captain Jamie Firth have all be given the nod for the Coffs Coast Chargers side for this weekend's Plan B Regional Bash round in Coffs Harbour.

The trio will join former Clarence River cricketer Luke Cox in the side which will be captained by Coffs Harbour representative captain Richie Gallichan.

Firth and Spencer were late additions to the side but have earned their stripes with quality performances in both representative cricket and GDSC Premier League.

Ellis earned his way into the side on the back of early season efforts and only cemented his spot with a classy century for Westlawn against former club GDSC Easts last week.

Firth has had to give up an opportunity to play Harwood in a grand final rematch to take part in the challenge which he hopes will further his representative career.

"It was a hard decision to make to leave the Brothers boys short for Harwood, but it was also an opportunity too good to pass up,” he said.

"The experience of playing another level of cricket against guys I have rarely seen on field will be great. I also really like the T20 and shorter formats.”

It has been a meteoric rise through the ranks for Firth, who only played his first match of senior rep cricket for CRCA last year before earning a regular place in the side this season.

Now in the form of his life, Firth is hoping to convert his local success to the regional level this weekend.

"It is definitely not going to be easy, it will be a bit of a challenge but hopefully I am up for it,” he said.

The Chargers will play three round games against Macquarie Coast Stingers, Northern Rivers Rock and Northern Inland Bolters with the winners playing in the finals at SCG next week.
