Derby fundraiser a success

IT was less about bash and crash and more about wine and dine when the Clarence Valley Roller Derby League got together last week for its “dine and derby” night.

The dine and derby night at Osteria Martini in Yamba on Thursday was all about raising money for the league.

The fundraiser featured a variety of games and competitions including a pizza-eating competition and an “arm wrestle a derby chick” competition.

Clarence Valley Roller Derby League player Jo Chamberlain was one of the organisers of the fundraiser.

She said the money raised would help pay for player shirts and logos.

Ms Chamberlain said the event would not have been possible without the support of several local businesses.

The league started in the Valley about three months ago.

According to Ms Chamberlain, there were dozens of good reasons to get involved.

“It’s something different. You get to dress up and hang out with like-minded women – and it keeps you fit,” she said.

Ms Chamberlain said Clarence Valley Roller Derby League was looking for new members. The group trains most Fridays between 7pm and 9pm. Anyone interested can phone the club’s president, Jade, on 0432 448 874.
