Triathlon club gaining popularity

YOU see those crazy people out pounding the pavement on a Sunday morning?

You know, those fitness fanatics who get up bright and early just to go for a run, or ride, or swim.

Chances are they are members of the Clarence Valley Triathlon Club.

“Some people use it as cross-training,” club secretary Regan Pullen said.

“Other people just do it as a get-together.”

About 15 to 25 people of all ages – and fitness levels – gather at the Yamba Swimming Pool on the first and third Sunday of each month for the training session.

The first get-together of the season was held last weekend.

“Last week we had boys and girls as well as kids and adults,” Pullen said.

“It's more about the time it takes than winning.

“It's just a training run rather than a race.”

Pullen said anyone with a bike who was keen to improve their fitness should attend. Handicap starts are given, so all athletes finish at a similar time.
