Close play in women’s competition

THE 2011 May Ladies Golf Tournament is beginning to get serious at the half-way point of the 36-hole tournament.

Former tournament winner Gloria Hickey, of Coffs Harbour is leading on 81, closely followed by Sue Reguson of Murwillumbah, on 83.

Reguson is the daughter of Grafton golf’s champion woman player of the past 30 years, Jean Dahl.

The nett leaders in Division 1 are Janette Blair of Grafton on 70 and Hickey on 65.

Competition is also fierce in the lower divisions.

Division 2 are close on their heels with Shez Meyer notching up a gross 84 and nett 66 and Leanne Clarke, of Woolgoolga, just one shot away on 85 and nett 64

Division 3 has four players within three shots of each other in the nett event. Grafton’s Norma Carter on 68, Grafton’s Soo McPherson on 69, and Mona Vale’s Anne Cailtin and Grafton’s Marianne Mannell on 70.

Dawn Futcher, from Maclean, is blitzing third division with a gross score of 93 and a nett score of 60, by far the best nett score so far.

Grafton’s super senior Joyce Brown is once again doing us proud coming in with a Nett 69.

The second 18 holes of the tournament continues today and the final event will be held to tomorrow before winners’ presentations.
