Comfort in victory

WINNING the Daily Examiner Primary School Netball Challenge has proved to be a consolation for the girls in the Yamba Public School team.

Team coach Jill Newberry said Wednesday's thrilling 20-17 win over Westlawn was the perfect antidote to disappointment earlier in the year, when Yamba was unluckily eliminated in the primary schools knockout.

"The girls had reached the final of the Far North Coast knockout against Cudgen," Mrs Newberry said.

"It was 17-all at full-time and we lost in extra-time. Cudgen went onto make the final eight in the state.

"The team was very disappointed to lose that game, but winning yesterday has helped make up for it."

The game against Westlawn was nearly as tight, with Yamba leading each quarter by no more than two goals.

Yamba goal defence Shea Holliday was name the Player of the Final.
