LOCKYER Valley Mayor Steve Jones has spoken of the emotional impact the prolonged search for Jayde Kendall had on volunteer and emergency services.

Cr Jones said the community was grieving for the loss of the teenager, but would worked together to overcome the sadness and the shock.

"I don't think there is a single person in this community who hasn't felt the heartfelt issues around this," he said.

"They are very sad, of course, and this comes at the end of a fortnight of really difficult circumstances for Jayde's family and the people around her.

"It's difficult for them, and even the State Emergency Service who are trying to do the best they can and for them, it's a bit like everyone - they want to help but it's not that easy."

He called on the community to respect the privacy of Jayde's family at this time.

He said the murder would not tear at the fabric of the community, but would bring residents together.

He said there didn't exist a fear that a murderer walked amongst the community for two weeks.

"We don't have to deal with such tragic things," he said.

"There are issues in the world and we really need to be supportive of each other.

"People now realise that out of every tragedy there is a small positive and that may well be how people continue to support each other."
