Community input wins extra exit ramp for Harwood

MOTORISTS are set to benefit with the government agreeing with community sentiment to refine plans for the Harwood/Yamba interchange design as part of the Woolgoolga to Ballina Pacific Highway upgrade.

An additional exit ramp has been included to improve access to the highway at Yamba.

"An additional exit ramp on the southern side of the Clarence River for Yamba and Maclean traffic was included in the long-term design and has now been brought forward to be built as part of the highway upgrade to be completed by 2020," Member for Clarence Chris Gulaptis said.

Mr Gulaptis said the design had been refined after consulting with the Harwood and Yamba communities.

"Roads and Maritime has been working closely with the communities since 2012 to determine the best design for interchanges at Maclean, Yamba Road and Harwood," he said.

"Different interchange options were presented to the community for feedback late last year.

"We received highly supportive feedback from both the community and key stakeholders, in particular the Yamba Chamber of Commerce, requesting the additional exit ramp.

"After reviewing options, the additional exit ramp will be built now to provide a better public value outcome for both highway traffic and local residents."
