Conte hits back over humiliation claim

FOOTBALL: Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has denied he tried to humiliate Joe Mourinho as the Manchester United manager suffered his worst defeat in English football.

The Italian was seen trying to whip up the Stamford Bridge crowd after N'Golo Kante scored Chelsea's fourth goal in the 4-0 English Premier League win.

Mourinho appeared to take offence, confronting his counterpart at the end of the game (pictured) and appearing to say (in Italian) he should behave like that "at 1-0, not at 4-0”.

Neither manager would elaborate on the conversation but Conte did say: "If someone discover something, OK ... but for me the private conversation remains private.

"I think that, today, it was right to call on our fans in a moment when I could only hear the supporters of Manchester United (singing) at 4-0. So I called the fans to give the players a great clap after this kind of performance. The players deserved that.”

United went behind after only 30 seconds to a goal from Spanish star Pedro and could not get a foothold after that. Further goals came from Gary Cahill, Eden Hazard and Kante to complete the rout.

Chelsea moved up to fourth after the victory, a point behind Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool.

City leads the ladder on goal difference but dropped two points after a 1-1 home draw with Southampton.

United and City will face each other in the second derby of the season on Thursday morning (AEST) at Old Trafford in the fourth round of the League Cup.
