Cops catch teen escapee

THE final escapee of last month's prison van bust in Grafton has been caught.

ACMENA detainee Hakeem Cohen was arrested in Kempsey yesterday morning after he fled a West Kempsey address.

General and taskforce police converged on the house on Gordon Nixon Ave about 10.40am following a tip-off from a member of the public.

The 18-year-old is the last to be caught after he and three other teenagers allegedly threatened two prison officers with a knife during an escape from a transport van in Grafton on March 2.

Two of the escapees were arrested in the Clarence Valley on March 4, and a 16-year-old was arrested in Kempsey on March 19.

Mid North Coast crime manager Steve Clarke said Mr Cohen appeared in court and was refused bail.

He has been charged with escaping lawful custody, two counts of robbery, trespass and take and detain for advantage.

Meanwhile, investigations are underway in regards to three incidents at the Acmena juvenile detention centre in the past 10 days.

Two other incidents involving detainees happened on April 6-7 and April 10.
