Cotten stitches up half century for Coutts

A STUNNING half century to Ryan Cotten has put Coutts Crossing in a strong position in its rain-affected Premier League cricket match against Westlawn at McKittrick Park, South Grafton.

Cotten was bowled by Westlawn captain Pat Vidler for 57 just before before rain ended play with the total at 4/111.

Representative batsmen Bill North (5no) and Eli Fahey (3no) were at the crease when umpires called off play after 30.3 overs.

North said Cotten was hitting the ball sweetly before he was dismissed trying to push the score along.

"It's a shame he got out when he did," North said. "If he was still in we would be in a really good position to push for quick runs next week.

"After sitting out all last season due to a knee operation, he's come back keen and hitting the ball sweetly."

Cotten's half century follows on from a similarly quickfire 46 in the round one victory against GDSC Easts.

He put on 39-run partnership with brother Brenden Cotten (22) before stepping up the ante in a 40-run stand with North.

A hamstring injury to all rounder Adam Elliott during Clarence River's representative game against Lismore could hamper Coutts with bat and ball as it pushes to set up victory next week.
