Could the flu really have killed a vegan Prince?

PRINCE was well known for his crazy lifestyle and early battles with drug addiction.

But in more recent years, after becoming a Jehovah's Witness, he was off the booze and a vegan.

So what could have killed him at 57?

The gifted songwriter and musician had been battling the flu since early April.

He had cancelled two shows  in Atlanta on his A Piano and a Microphone tour.

After playing the rescheduled shows on Thursday, April 14, his plane made an unscheduled emergency landing at Quad-City International Airport in Moline, Ill., in the early hours of April 15.

He was treated at Trinity Moline medical center for about three hours and was suffering from "bad dehydration."

He returned to his Paisley Park home in Chanhassan, Minn. where he held a dance party for 200 on the next night, where he appeared for about five minutes.

So the question remains, could something as common as influenza really have killed Prince.

According to Forbes.com, the answer is yes.

"For several of the last few years, the Northern Hemisphere has been experiencing a resurgence of the 2009 pandemic strain of the influenza A virus,'' the site reports.

"Last year - the 2014-2015 flu season - 61% of flu hospitalizations were among adults aged 18 to 64, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

"By comparison, an H3N2 strain predominated during the previous season, with only 35% of hospitalizations occurring in the 18-64 age group."
