Couple charged over neglect of teens in 'house of horrors'

A COUPLE has been charged over the neglect of three teenagers who were allegedly forced to live in a house of horrors in the NSW north west.

Police allege the family home was littered with rubbish and faeces when they investigated reports of neglect at Narromine, near Dubbo last month.

It will be further alleged that after police visited the house, the father took his 16-year-old wheelchair-bound daughter and 14-year-old son to Sydney in an attempt to avoid intervention.

Highway patrol officers stopped the man at Springwood, in the Blue Mountains and removed the teenagers from his care.

An 18-year-old woman was also removed from her parents care.

Detectives have since raided the home once again and charged the parents with numerous counts of failure to provide necessities of life and failure of persons with parental responsibility to care for a child.

They will front court next month.
