Three die in horror crash
TWO Clarence Valley men and one Murwillumbah woman are dead after a horror road crash south of Tweed Heads on Thursday night.
According to a police statement, about 7.50pm on Thursday night a north-bound white utility carrying two Clarence Valley men collided with a silver Mitsubishi sedan heading south on the Tweed Valley Way at Stotts Island, near Tumbulgum.
The driver of the sedan, a 34-year-old woman from Murwillumbah, and the driver of the ute, a 27-year-old man believed to be from Yamba, died at the scene.
The ute’s passenger, a 36-year-old man believed to be from the Clarence area, was thrown from the vehicle but also died at the scene. According to the police statement, the road was closed for several hours while officers from the Ballina crash investigations unit attended the scene with the road reopening about 1am yesterday.
A police spokesperson yesterday said the victims had not been identified and it could be sometime before they were officially named. Police were still trying to determine the cause of the crash and were appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or either of the vehicles prior to it to contact crime stoppers on 1800 333 000.
