Chop it off: Crichton’s blunt advice to Klemmer

BLUES enforcer David Klemmer's is battling a middle finger injury that requires getting needled before every game.

Ironically the Blues prop suffered the injury in a tackle on NSW teammate Angus Crichton in the Bulldogs clash with the Rabbitohs in April.

Crichton is famous for having his finger amputated after repeated injuries and he has told Klemmer he should do the same in Blues camp, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Klemmer's finger has become so bad that he struggles to put his jersey on before a game.

"It's frustrating because you don't realise how much you use your hands every day," Klemmer told Fairfax Media.

"I just have to put up with it ... needle it before every game to take the pain away.

"I did in the Good Friday game actually, tackling Angus.

"It popped out straight away. I popped it back in, but it still wasn't right. I needled it at half-time but it hasn't come good.

"I have a right-hand carry, so every time I hit it, it hurts. I'll wait until the end of the season and get it cleaned out and hopefully straightened."

Crichton removed his middle finger in the off-season after it was repeatedly injured and failed to heal.

"He keeps telling me to cut the thing off," Klemmer said.

"He told me what happened to him. Hopefully it doesn't come to that and I can keep mine. It's mind-boggling what he did. He's a tough bugger."
