Cows opera a huge success
THE dulcet tones of Cowper's crickets and flying foxes may have been uninvited orchestra extras but in no way did it deter from the real stars of Opera with the Cows at Cowper Public School.
The perfect weather was only matched by the voices of the performers who sang a variety of songs and instrumentals ranging from Toreador, sung by Troy Castle, Marimba Mozart by the students and Love Never Dies by soprano Cathryn Burgess.
Co-ordinator of the event Melissa Philp was ecstatic with the evening, with around 350 people turning up with their chairs and blankets for their under-the-stars seating plan.
"This was the second annual opera and it has been a huge success," she said.
"The children were so good to watch and they certainly made their parents proud.
"The students were on a real high after wards and it's great to have this sort of culture brought to the Valley.
"There were many highlights for me, including the duo with Australia's emerging opera stars Joselyn O'Malley and Jordan Foster when they sang All I Ask of You, this gave the audience goose bumps.
"Cathyrn Burgess, Troy Castle and the orchestra were also phenomenal during La Ci Darem. The whole night was a standout success."
Ms Philp was recently featured in a national magazine which included a story about the event, with a number of visitors travelling interstate for the opera.
Even the hand-raised school calves loved the event and were groomed for the evening by the students.
