Critical meeting for junior cricket association
GRAFTON junior cricket could be in dire straits this season unless more people are willing to join the executive.
Secretary Janet Grieve predicted dire consequences for the sport in Grafton if the Clarence River Junior Cricket Association was unable to form an executive after tonight's annual meeting.
"We are calling for all volunteers, parents and supporters to fill the executive positions of president, secretary, vice president and treasurer,” Ms Grieve said.
"Previous executive position holders are willing to support the new members fully with advise and procedures and I will be on hand to support the new committee.
"Other positions that are important to fill are wet weather advisor, representative coaches, North Coast Cricket delegate, purchasing officer, publicity officer, fixtures, umpire delegate, junior selector(rep), under-16 co-ordinator and trophy custodian.”
She said these positions should be shared between the clubs, making the work load lighter, rather than falling to one or two people as has previously happened.
"We would like to see a major turn out at the next meeting as there was disappointing attendance at the last special meeting, with less attendees and two less clubs than our previous AGM,” she said.
"Junior cricket is an important foundation for our young players and will impact the viability of senior cricket in the future if we do not maintain numbers and junior programs.”
