Crocs boss calls for support despite disappointment

TOWNSVILLE Crocs chief executive Ian Smythe last week wrote an open letter expressing his disappointment at the club's 0-7 to the 2012/13 season, but urging fans, members and sponsors everyone to stick the course.

It seems the team's subsequent 81-72 loss to competition leaders New Zealand was the final straw. This week Smythe wrote another open letter, this time tendering his resignation.

"Our 0-8 record is by any standards a poor start to the season and we have been unable to attract the numbers of members and fans to the games that we have achieved in the past," Smythe wrote.

"No one person is more important than this club and as such I have tendered my resignation to the board effective immediately."

While the club may be struggling on and off the court, Breakers captain Mika Vukona said his side would show no sympathy in the return clash tonight in Auckland.

"You don't want to be the first team they get the win against," he said. "Training's actually been pretty intense this week because everybody knows what's on the line."

Perth hosts Adelaide in tonight's other match.
