Crows plan to honour Walsh with a win

AFL: Adelaide is planning to honour its late great coach Phil Walsh in the best way possible this Sunday – by “getting the job done” against Melbourne.

The Crows will play the Demons one year on from when Walsh was allegedly murdered at his Adelaide home.

“He left a massive footprint on the footy club and individuals’ lives so I’m sure individuals will treat it differently by themselves,” Crows captain Taylor Walker told reporters yesterday.

“But as a footy club we’re really happy with where we are at and have got a lot of memories out of it and look forward to, as he said, getting the job done. We’ll do it on Sunday.”

Walsh had appointed the key forward as captain when taking charge at the club at the end of 2014.

“I had a great relationship with him so it’s probably fair to say I do think about him quite often,” he said. “He was a great man, Phil.”

Walker said enduring such a tragic event galvanised the playing group, and that is playing out again in 2016 with the side a premiership contender on a 9-4 win-loss record.

“We are a pretty united group as it is, we have got a great culture here,” Walker said.

“And I think anything that is dramatic within footy clubs can unite and bring the group together and we have been able to do that.”
