Cutting strikes to give Bulls chance of victory

BEN Cutting nabbed the crucial wicket of Victorian captain Matthew Wade in the penultimate over on day two at the Gabba yesterday as the Bulls went in search of a first Sheffield Shield win of the season.

The bottom-placed Bulls had a lead of 152 runs at stumps with the Vics on 5-230 after the home side had earlier declared its first innings on 8-382. Skipper James Hopes (pictured) went for some quick runs and he and Peter Forrest (36) put on 88 for the fifth wicket before Forrest fell.

Hopes was next to go for 57 off 70 balls before Chris Hartley (20) and Ben Cutting (23) added some quick runs.

The home side had Victoria in trouble at 2-33 with Alister McDermott taking the wickets of Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell.

The visitors fought back with a 103 partnership between Peter Handscomb (52) and Craig White (76) and then David Hussey (46no) and Wade added 85 for the fifth wicket before Cutting struck.
