CYCLING: The Grafton to Inverell Cycle Classic will be the opening round of the 2016 Subaru National Road Series.

"The Grafton to Inverell has a long history and Cycling Australia is proud to be associated with the event," Cycling Australia CEO Nick Green said.

"The challenging one day classic is sure to test riders when it opens the series on its new autumn date of May 7."

Organisation is well under way with traffic management and race plans on schedule. Organisers have received a lot of positive feedback on the new

date and are expecting a large field across all three grades.

"We are hopeful of a very strong field in the NRS 'A' Grade, especially with the postponement of the Tour of Toowoomba and Battle on the Border," organising committee member Peter Sunderland said.

"Teams and riders will be looking to make the most of the limited racing opportunities in the early parts of the season.

"The prospects for good fields in the 'B' and 'C' grades are equally exciting. We have had a great deal of positive feedback from riders looking to race in lower grades with the earlier date allowing them to enjoy better training conditions leading into the race."

Entries are now open via the Cycling NSW website.
