Daniel Morcombe's killer to be moved in prison

DANIEL Morcombe's killer will be pulled from the prison isolation he has enjoyed for almost two years, with reports he will now be moved in with other inmates.

Brett Peter Cowan was found guilty of murder in 2014 for killing the 13-year-old boy.

Cowan abducted the young teenager as he waited for a bus on the Sunshine Coast, prompting a national search for Daniel.

Seven News reports Cowan was kept in isolation at the Wolston Correctional Centre for his own safety, with officers fearing the 46-year-old would be the target of other inmates wanting to kill or injure the man who murdered Daniel Morcombe.

It will be up to Cowan whether he spends time with up to 60 inmates in "Unit S8"

An unnamed prison source told Seven:

"He's still at huge risk and is a hated man. All movement in the jail has to be suspended while they bring him from the detention unit to S8.

"He has had a couple of visits to the unit but knocked a visit back on one occasion because he felt unsafe.

"He hasn't been threatened to our knowledge while in S8."
