Date set for Gold Coast Logies

FIVE months after it was announced that Queensland would host this year's Logies, Channel 9 will today finally announce the date - July 1.

That's the day when the biggest stars in Australian television will head to The Star Gold Coast for the 60th annual awards.

After years in Melbourne, the Gold Coast won the right to host the ceremony as part of a four-year deal with the Queensland Government.

And while the Logies have historically been held in April, The Courier-Mail understands they were moved to July because of a clash with the Commonwealth Games.

Today Extra host Sonia Kruger couldn't be happier that the event will be held in her home town.

"I think it's exciting that it's changing. I love Melbourne and Crown, but the change to the Gold Coast - my home town - is going to give it a new lease of life," she said.

"The fashion might be a little bit more daring.

"It's that holiday vibe on the Gold Coast, you feel like you are on holiday - and the parties will be huge."

The State Government was understood to have forked out more than the $1 million Victoria was prepared to pay to host the star-studded event.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the deal in September, but the date had been kept under wraps.

Voting opens on March 5 and nominees are due to be announced on May 27.
