‘WTF is happening?’ England slammed

What was Dawid Malan thinking?

The Englishman confounded fans and commentators alike after failing to appeal an lbw decision despite what looked an obvious inside edge.

Malan became the second batsman this Test to not call for a review that would have saved him after James Vince was out in similar circumstances on Day 2.

The Barmy Army were fuming about Malan's non-review.

"That's two now," one angry member of the squad said after watching it on the big screen.

"Absolute joke. That was a massive edge."

Bill Lawry was equally flabbergasted in commentary for Channel 9.

"It is weird, because I can't remember a time when I nicked a ball and didn't know it. It seems to be - well, the bat is away from the pad," he said.

"I thought it may have been the pad. I thought it may have been the bat hitting the pad. No, the bat is away from the pad. The mark must be an inside edge.

James Vince was given out LBW despite an inside edge, which he didn't refer.

"This is weird, because Vince, there was a feeling that Vince might have nicked his as well. "And he didn't review it, that looks, well, to all intents and purposes as though he's inside- edged it.

"Why did he bother to go down there and talk to Alastair Cook. He should have immediately reviewed it himself.

"The only thing I can think of if the thicker bats make it harder to detect an edge. As I say, through my career I do not - not once - not know that I nicked it."

"That is weird," Former Aussie captain Ian Chappell told Channel 9.
