WHILE most ladies looked to the runway and glossy magazines for race day outfit inspiration, Leanne Rosak went panning for twigs in the Calliope River.

The 28-year-old said she never bought her race day fascinators or hats, instead choosing to craft her creations from scratch.

On Tuesday Leanne paraded her black, red and orange creation at the Melbourne Cup races at Ferguson Park, Gladstone.

"I spent a couple of hours putting it all together," Leanne said. "And it only cost me $25."

The orange rose and the scarlet and blood-orange twig tips were mounted firmly on the black headpiece.

Leanne teamed the hat with a balayage orange and pink necklace, orange belt and shoes.

The Gladstone woman spent race day with her close friends, who were soaking up the festivities.

"The best thing about the Gladstone races is the atmosphere," she said.

Leanne, who is between administration jobs, said she had a knack for arts and crafts.

"I'm known to make masks for masquerade parties," she said.

Gladstone's most glamorous turned heads at the track on Tuesday.

Marquees filled up quickly before the big race, with crowds dwindling off into the afternoon.
