Detectives probe child's death

Homicide Squad detectives have established a strike force to investigate the death of a child at Coffs Harbour earlier this month.

A two-year-old girl was taken by ambulance to Coffs Harbour Hospital about 11.30am on 30 March this year, after her mother contacted Triple Zero.

The child had sustained head injuries including a fractured skull. She was airlifted to Westmead Children’s Hospital later that night.

As a result of the injuries sustained, the child later died on 1 April this year.

Strike Force Embley comprises detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Joint Investigation Response Squad and was established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

The matter is currently being treated as suspicious and investigations are continuing.

Investigators have interviewed the parents of the child who are assisting with enquiries. The child was in the company of another adult at the time the injuries were sustained.

Anyone who may have any information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
