Surf star Dingo coming to Sawtell

DEAN “Dingo” Morrison, surfing star and one of the original Coolangatta Kids (along with Joel Parkinson and Mick Fanning) will be at Sawtell on Friday for the screening of A Dingo’s Tale.

Head down to Sawtell First Avenue Cinema where there will be a meet and greet session from 7.30pm on April 1 and grab a signature from this surfing legend.

A Dingo’s Tale is a feature film on the life and experiences of “Dingo” with inspiring footage from his surf sessions all around the world, including Hawaii and Western Australia.

The movie was made by top film makers in the surfing industry, Simon “Shagga” Saffigna and Matt Gye.

The makers have attracted international film awards for their documentaries.

Their past work includes, “A Day in the Life” and “3 Degrees” which features the Coolangatta Kids.

A Dingo’s Tale is described by the makers as, “an insightful look into Dean’s life and the journey he has taken from a grommet and childhood prodigy to one of the most popular surfers in the world”.

Saffigna said A Dingo’s Tale recently premiered at Kirra Surf during the Quicksilver Pro surfing event.

“It went really well and was pretty classic with everyone around for the Quicksilver Pro,” Shagga said.

“It also showed at the Gold Coast Arts Centre ... it was good to sit in a proper theatre ... and we are looking forward to the screening at Sawtell.”

Sawtell surfer Barney Miller said the event was suitable for kids who could meet the legend and score a signature.

“There is nothing better than watching a good surfing movie and this is a great chance for people to meet the star of the film.”

The movie will screen at 8pm and tickets cost $12 for adults and $8 for kids.
