Dive into latest swimwear trends

AS THE weather heats up in Australia, the swimwear trends of the European summer will start to hit beaches and pools nationwide. Derived from the bohemian mood that was seen at the Coachella festival, this season has shown the Californian free spirit embodied in swim fabrics and silhouettes. Bikinis are adorned in hand-drawn paisley prints and embellished with tassels and lace, shown off by the likes of Maaji and Aguaclara. Carefree in embroidered or crocheted two-pieces, you will feel as if you are dancing away in Palm Springs, or Bryon Bay.

This season also heightened the theme of vintage glamour. Plunging one-pieces with low scooped backs in shades of metallic nudes were bared by designers Gottex and Beach Riot. High-waisted bottoms gracefully paired with halter neck or elegant one-shouldered tops can be accessorised with floppy sun hats, reminiscent of French Rivera style.

Now visualise the backdrop of Sydney and the blues of Bondi Beach. The nautical '70s is a nostalgic trend that has been reinvented with geometric shapes and a splash of retro surf by O'Neill and Patagonia. Origami stripes and chevron patterns have been painted in hues of blue. Ice, denim or navy, there's a shade to suit any refreshingly adventurous woman.

A micro trend within all of the spring-summer 2017 styles is performance-based fabrics for the seafaring female. Brands have focused on lightweight lycras, UV neoprenes and snag-resistant yarns.
