Diver attacked by shark off Western Australia coast

A 55-YEAR-old man is in hospital after being attacked by a shark in waters off Western Australia.

The diver was 180km east of Esperance in the state's south at 10.25am on Tuesday when he suffered serious injuries as a result of the strike.

A St John Ambulance spokesman told Perth Now that he was expected to be transferred by Royal Flying Doctor Service to Perth late in the afternoon.

Reports suggest he was diving with a friend, who called emergency services after the incident.

The 55-year-old is understood to be a professional diver.
