Dog owner to be sentenced this week over Byron Bay attack

THE owner of a dog who bit off part of a woman's nose outside Byron Bay's Roadhouse Cafe last month will be sentenced next Friday after pleading guilty to charges in Byron Bay Local Court last week.

Adam Coates was charged with not complying with menacing dog laws when he let his unmuzzled Italian mastiff off its leash prior to the attack.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, had to undergo reconstructive surgery after the incident, while the dog was destroyed at the owner's request.

Mr Coates pleaded guilty to the charges but could face up to two years in jail.
