Dogged century stand helps home side to big total

TUCABIA V GDSC EASTS: The experience of the Tucabia Copmanhurst GI Hotel's middle order took full control of a flat McKittrick Park wicket as the home side declared at 8-257 against GDSC Easts.

After a strong opening spell from Easts' Ben Shaw (2 for 42 off 14) had Tucabia on shaky ground losing wicket keeper Derek Woods (1) with the score still at single figures.

But an early fight back from opener Dan Cootes (24) and a top-scoring Tim Bultitude (70) gave the foundation to the home sides innings before Andrew Buchanan joined Bultitude for a dominant fourth wicket stand.

Buchanan (61) and Bultitude were calculated as they put the pressure back on the Easts bowling attack with a 106-run partnership.

When Buchanan was removed by Nick Harris, Bultitude could do nothing but watch from the other end as Tucabia experienced a minor mid-innings collapse losing 4-41.

When Bultitude fell looking for runs against tweaker Jackson Grieve (1 for 68 off 16) it was left to captain Brad Chard (16 not out) and pace bowler Tyson Blackadder (32 not out) to add a quick fire 43 before switching bat for ball as they chased twilight wickets.

Simon Connor and captain Ben Hill survived the onslaught and will resume next weekend at 0-8 looking to make a strong start as they chase 258 for victory.
