Don’t ride it on the down-low, rev it up

IF YOU noticed a couple this week riding around on a Harley Davidson, chances are it was Joan Johnson and local Legacy member Michael Sexton.

Mrs Johnson, 93, lives in Grafton and is a war widow as well as a bit of a motorbike-fan.

Earlier this week, Mr Sexton took her for a spin around Grafton on his 1994 Harley Davidson Road King.

Mrs Johnson said while her driver was careful to stick to the legal speed limit, she would not have minded him to pick up the pace.

"I have always liked motorbikes and always liked to go fast," she said.

Mr Sexton said his passenger was delighted by her trip around town.

"When I dropped her back she was so happy and gave me a hug and a kiss,"

"She said it was the best Christmas present she could have received," he said.

Mrs Johnson's daredevil feats do not end with motorbikes.

At age 82, she travelled up to Townsville in North Queensland to go skydiving.

She said she decided to take the plunge because two of her grandsons dared her to.

"I was dared to by the two boys so I just did it," she said. Mrs Johnson's daughter Jan Lees said she was not surprised when her mother told her she was going to jump out of a plane.

"All I said was that she should take out her teeth," she said.
