Dragons breathe fire at regatta

RECENTLY eight paddlers from Clarence Valley Dragons Abreast competed at the Australian Dragon Boat Championships in Adelaide as part of the NSW Northern Region state squad.

The NSW squad consisted of over 460 paddlers, with 80 representing clubs from Maclean to Newcastle, making up the Northern Region contingent.

The squad was very successful in the state v state regatta across the divisions contested, bringing home several medals to the Clarence Valley.

Masters women: Gold – Karen Kiely and Bronwyn Sutton; Grand masters women: Gold – Meegan Bell; Masters mixed: Silver – Nigel Sutton;

Grand masters women B: Bronze – Robyn Munson, Lynne Rae, Sue Cornwall and Gail Strickland.

The squad began training for the championships in January and is pleased with the results of its hard work.
