Alleged drink driver totals car after hitting pole

THE driver of a Great Wall 4WD has been charged with drink driving after her car hit a pole on Glastonbury Rd last night and spun off into nearby scrub, leaving it a totalled mess on the side of the road and strewn with smashed beer bottles.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 11.20pm last night to find the car resting about 70m before Eel Creek Bridge on Glastonbury Road.

The female driver from Gympie, thought to be in her 20s and male passenger were treated for minor injuries before the driver gave a positive reading when breath-tested at the Gympie police station.

Gympie police sergeant Rod Venn, who has seen terrible and tragic outcomes for people when they drive above the legal alcohol limit could not stress the importance of abiding by the legal limit.

"On this occasion the outcome wasn't as bad as it could have been, but with alcohol in your system, you're far more likely to be involved in a serious crash," he told The Gympie Times.

"Police enforcement is on constant 24/7 and a loss of licence will ensure if convicted of drink driving."

Police could not disclose alcohol content reading of the driver.

Further, another crash this morning at Calico Creek involving one vehicle saw a man taken to the Gympie Hospital with minor injuries.

The car he was driving had left the road and came to rest down an embankment.

Police attended the crash on the Mary Valley Highway at about 6.30am.

The reason for the crash is unknown.
