Young Eagles Aussie Rules star soar toward next challenge
LOWER Clarence Eagles duo Lachie Glover and Tom Kerr are no strangers to success.
As part of their Aussie rules side they are undefeated, winning all bar one game so far by more than 100 points.
Glover is an Australian title-holding amateur boxer, winning both the 57.5-60kg and 60-63.5kg belts, while Kerr has just stepped into the ring.
"I got a walkover in the lighter division so had to go up," Glover said.
"It was tough but I ended up winning."
Now the Maclean High pair is set to suit up for Northern New South Wales in the School Sport Association state competition in Wagga Wagga next month.
West Coast Eagles fan Glover has played Aussie rules for about five years, following in the foot steps of his dad.
Disheartened Essendon Bombers fan Kerr followed mates like Glover into the sport, and has shone when given representative opportunities.
"I've handled it all right," Kerr said. "It's pretty different style of play. No fights and it's all about the game."
Both 15-year-olds are looking forward to the Wagga trip, where they will take on students from across NSW in their chosen sport.
But if there is anything they are relishing most it is the opportunity to take on new opponents.
"We beat every team by 100-plus so it'll be good to play a few more challenging games," Glover said.
The competition runs from June 5-7.
